Best of 2016

Year 2016 has been an amazing year for me. I am grateful for my loving family and beautiful kids, for having laughs and good times with my husband, for all inspiring destinations I traveled to, for new people who entered my life, for all friends who I enjoyed the company with. I am grateful for all internal realizations and discoveries, for all opportunities and adventures that Life grants me.  I see beauty in every day life and I want to do it all in style that is true to myself, whether it is walking the streets of a busy New York or relaxing at the beach with my kids, seeing the sunset in Tulum or running the lavender fields in Provence.

I am grateful to be able to share it and I’d like to thank you all for following along. Here are some of my favorite fashion moments in 2016. Cheers to 2017!

It’s the morning of Thanksgiving day. I am slowly sipping my coffee with a luxurious piece of pecan pie, staring out of the window and I feel in this moment that I am complete. I open up my laptop and my fingers start typing. I want to give thanks. Thanks to this beautiful world, to my life, to my family, to my husband and my beautiful kids, to my friends and followers, to all people that crossed my path and who inspired me, for all experiences that I had and for those yet to come. And most of all, I want to thank “myself” for feeling this way, for knowing the difference between what’s important and what is not, for listening to my intuition, for having my own voice, for being able to inspire whoever finds me inspiring.

I don’t have a wish list this holiday season. I just want to thank for all that already is.

Hope you all have something to be thankful for.

Love, Elena

It’s been a year…

It’s been a year since I launched this website and I’d like to thank you all for joining.

In my continued pursuit to find what makes my soul sing and to express myself creatively I started a fashion blog a year ago. Little did I know that soon after I would start an amazing journey of discovering myself, the meaning of life and what my true purpose is.

I am thankful for all people who stayed in my life and who supported me, and I am thankful for those who left only to open the door for new ones to come into my life, touch my soul and change my direction.

I learned that everything that happens to you you really attract to yourself. I learned that when you love life and you are grateful for every moment, good or bad, life loves you back and the possibilities of what you can do are endless.
I learned how to embrace all sides of me, and that I can do it all – Be a financier, a fashion blogger, mom, wife, friend.
I learned that life is about balance. That I can dance in stilettos one night and be barefoot on the yoga mat the next day. Eat chocolate and drink wine when my heart wants it and eat kale salad when my body needs it. Be bold and loud, and let that compliment my ability to stay humble and silent. Make my own rules and follow my own path and don’t let anybody tell me how to live according to theirs.

What changed in me and what I feel inside can never be shown in the picture or written in the post. I can attempt it though, just because I want others also to feel good about themselves and to show them the bright side of life. I feel that when you are blessed in life, it is not just for you, but for you to pass to others.

So thank you for joining me on this journey, I am only starting.

Smile. Life is truly beautiful.

2015 Recap

2015 marked a year of awakening, inspiration and immense growth for me. Starting with a sunrise morning runs on the beach in Mexico, followed by starting my own fashion blog. Then meeting spiritual teachers and spending summer weekends in the mountains with my kids, while reading books and meditating. Then taking an amazing trip to Italy with my husband, all that while being challenged in my finance career, as well as pushed to the limits by my kids, only the next minute showered by their unconditional love.

All that made search for the higher wisdom and a larger vision of life, to get an answer to that restless feeling inside of me that I knew something but forgot. As the pictures from my inspiration folder began to manifest, I started to realize that I create my own reality. I realized that there are no ordinary moments, that my destiny is truly remarkable and beautiful design and it unfolds at its perfect time, even though very often it doesn’t feel that way as I don’t see a big picture.

I am grateful for this year, for everyone who crossed my path, for all new people that I attracted into my life, for all the old friends and family who sincerely rooted for me and those who didn’t.

I know that to discover myself I don’t need to take a trip to Nepal or Peru, I just need to look inside to get all the answers. However I may take those trips anyway, because travel inspires me and expands my thinking, it makes my heart skip a beat when I see unreal sunsets and makes me  emerge in the moment when without rushing anywhere I take my time sipping wine in small cafes, people watch and just enjoy being.

As I look into 2016 I really don’t have any goals as much as to bring fashion inspiration, pass positive vibes, and simply serve as mini escape from an ordinary life with my travel pictures and my random pictures of all things I find beautiful, like the sunrise or a nice pair of shoes 😉

And it will be beautiful if I can pass my energy and inspire someone along the way, and if not, it will be beautiful nevertheless, because it is already perfect for me and that’s enough.

Thank you for joining me on my journey and Happy New Year.

Love, Elena

The highly anticipated collection from Balmain for H&M was sold out in a few hours. I got a chance to score these “luxury budget” items and I love them. The quality, the details, the beading is outstanding and when paired with shoes and accessories from other designers you can get a lot of amazing looks.

If you’ve been wanting to get your hands on this collection, I don’t blame you, but to get these exact items you can only get on eBay at this point, but I would not pay thousands for it, because for those prices you are better off getting a “real” Balmain.

Balmain x H&M items: Black velvet braided dress / Green shirt / Blue rope top / Yellow beaded top / Harem pants / Velvet Jacket

Chandelier Earrings / Bracelet

Designer Balmain items I love: Cape / Jumpsuit / Dress / Black wool Blazer / White Blazer

Transition to fall

It’s time to say a farewell to sweet summertime and an excited hello to fall! But don’t pack away your summer pieces just yet, with a few simple styling tricks you can take your favorite summer basics and transition them beautifully into the fall. These are my top picks:
  • Blazers. Blazers. Blazers. Can’t get enough of the them, wear them with shorts, skinny jeans, bell bottoms pants or summer dresses, anything goes…I like classic blazers from JCrew to wear with stripes tee and jeans or cape blazers from Lavish Alice
  • Also in style sleeveless blazers and vests, like these by  Topshop
  • The sleeveless drape coat I am wearing is from Asos (also sold by NEWLOOK)
  • For cooler fall days, I just got this amazing cape by Pierre Balmain
  • Scarves – love wearing bright bold scarves year round, it doubles as a saragon in the summer and scarf in the fall, and I like to tie the scarf with skinny belt, it makes any outfit.
  • Floppy hat or fedora hat, transitioning from straw to felt, Topshop has the best shapes.
  • Change your shoes – from flip flops and gladiators to pointy pumps and velvet loafers (check these by Rachel Zoe).  Also this fall season chunky heels are in style, I just bough these boots from Zara.
  • I also love chunky sweaters (check this open back one) or light cashmere cardigans with jeweled details from Saks, you can wear these sweaters with short skirts that will see a comeback this fall or skinny jeans; over a crisp white button up or tie around a neck over a simple white tee.
  • Also, for nail color I switch to grey nail polish, check Essie in Power Clutch and for lip color I switch to wine-hued lips, check Nars matte lipstick
  • Overall, change up color theme, aside from neutrals greys and beige that I have a lot in my closet, my go-to fall colors are navy and burgundy.

Happy Fall Shopping…

Italian Fashion

As I walked down 5th avenue in New York city passing Dolce & Gabbana store, I stopped to admire the colors of its window displays and thought about how much this brand and Italian fashion in general influenced my electric fashion style starting in my 20s. (In my 30s, my fashion style was more influenced by Chanel’s black and white, as well as greys and minimalist style of New York City, but that deserves another post).

Meeting my husband at the age of 22 was a beginning of my love affair with him and with Italy. Him being someone who loved soccer, Monica Bellucci and everything Italian 🙂 he took me to many wonderful places in Italy and even proposed to me in Rome. What we loved about Italians is their passion for life, food and fashion. Walking the street of Rome, Florence and Venice I imagined myself as a character in Federico Fellini’s movies or a model in the ads of the fashion magazines. I even mimicked the ad campaign of Dolce & Gabanna perfume Light Blue, photographed by the shore of Capri island.

Dolce & Gabbana’s deep colors, various prints, nautical stripes, as well as all black or all white lace creations took an inspiration from Italy’s prestigious film history. The designers were more concerned about creating the best, most flattering clothes than sparking trends and it feels that they think of a story first and then design the cloths to go with it. This is totally how I think about my styling and what I share on my blog. Other Italian designers that I admire are Gianfranco Ferre, Prada and Roberto Cavalli and I am lucky to be able to collect their pieces over the years.

Check Dolce & Gabanna latest collection here and be sure to check out my other posts on my trips to Italy’s Venice and Florence.

If you would like to get inspired by italian fashion and unique style of Fellini’s cinema, please check latest edition. They helped to restore one of the most iconic films of Italian cinema, “Amarcord” for which Federico Fellini earned an Oscar. Shop the inspired collection here.

As I think about more recent Italian movies, either filmed and/ or directed in Italy, these ones come to mind right away “Malena”, “Only You”, “Under the Tuscan Sun” and one of the most recent ones “Eat, Pray, Love”

If I were to draw an analogy to “Eat, Pray, Love” movie, the “Eat” part of my movie is coming to an end. And no I didn’t book a trip to India yet, but I am stepping into the new chapter of my life where I want to discover who I really am and what is the purpose of my life, “Pray” part of my movie if you will. As shallow as one could think me starting this fashion blog might be, it really opened a door of other opportunities for me, the most important one is finding who I really am and connecting further to that creative source. Being a director of my own beautiful movie, always observing myself from the side or from above, this time around I decided not to write the script (in fact I never did), but to go with the flow and letting my life unfold in more beautiful ways, meeting new people, discovering new places and hoping that my creativity and seeing beauty in many things will inspire many people along the way.

Stay tuned,
